It’s really rare for me to have a day away from Pickle. I don’t often even have a couple of hours away from him, and he still spends most of the night sleeping snuggled up next to me. We’re a little team. A unit. We come as a pair. So I think it threw me a little bit to be at the Blog On conference on my own yesterday. I really wasn’t myself and despite having looked forward to it ever since coming home from my last one in September, I left feeling disappointed in myself.

This time last year, I wrote about how there was already too much changing in 2016 for me to make any resolutions, but 2017 is a little different. I’m now almost 7 months into a parenting journey that will last a lifetime, and thankfully, things have begun to settle down a little bit, leaving me a little time to start to focus on the things that I want to do (although, all in the efforts to make life better for our little family!).

I’ve really enjoyed building Little Pickle’s Mom, and now I feel it’s definitely time to begin to think a little bit more strategically about how I use this blog. The last few months have been a blur of nursing, baby naps and sleep deprivation so if I’ve managed to get a blog post written, I’ve considered that a victory even if it wasn’t particularly regularly or on a topic I really wanted to write about. Going forward, I want to have a (loose) schedule. I want to stick to the themes and topics that are important to me. I want to continue improving and practicing my photography, and I especially want to keep learning all the digital skills I’ve been building. Who knew I’d even WANT to know so much about SEO and social media?

A wise woman told me that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down, and I know I’ll be even MORE likely to achieve them if I share them publically. So here goes…

My 2017 Blogging Goals

  • Achieve a Domain Authority of 30 (currently: 19)
  • Reach a Social Following of 20,000 (currently: approx 3,100)
  • Reach 10,000 page views a month (currently: approx 2,500)
  • Post 100 blog posts over the course of the year (whoops, had to edit this as I’d originally mistyped and put 150! After only managing very sporadic posts since Pickle’s been born, I think three a week is a bit too optimistic!)
  • Begin to earn a regular online income
  • Write a LPM Made This post every fortnight

If you’re not a blogger, some of those goals might mean absolutely nothing to you but if you’re intrigued at all, I’d be MORE than happy to explain! I enjoy sharing what little knowledge I have. I genuinely think these are all achievable and have started to put plans in place to make sure I get there (or who knows? Even surpass them!).

Of course, there is more to me and my 2017 than just blogging and so I have a number of personal goals I’d also like to achieve this year.

My Personal Goals

  • Do parkrun at least twice a month
  • Read at least one book a month
  • Cut the food shop down to £50 a week
  • Have a date night with LPD once a month

With all my goals, I’ve tried to make them a bit more specific than just the generic ‘lose weight’ or ‘save money’ because I know I’d find arbitrary aims like that hard to action on a day to day basis but by breaking them down into what I need to do per month or per week, I feel like it’s a bit more immediate and there’s a sense or urgency to it.

I’m thinking about trying to reinstate my bullet journal that I started when I was pregnant but haven’t had the time to upkeep. I found the daily, weekly and monthly splitting up of tasks really helpful and it definitely kept me on track of all the things I wanted to achieve. But I definitely don’t have the time to make it look as pretty and beautiful as I did pre-motherhood! We’ll see… that might have to be something I keep on the backburner.

So, here goes. I’ve written my blogging goals. I’ve published them. Now to achieve them all!

What are your blogging goals or personal ones for 2017? And have you thought about the best way to work towards them?

As the year draws to a close, it’s a time for reflection and evaluation. Goodness knows 2016 has given me lots to think about! What a year of change and transformation. This time last year, I was just getting to grips with being pregnant and trying to fathom what kind of parent I wanted to be, and now I spend all day with real-life, giggling, raspberry-blowing, ever-more-on-the-move Pickle and I realise that I’m far from the parent I imagined! And I think for the better.

In December 2015, I’d just starting writing Little Pickle’s Mom, my little corner of the internet, and in all honesty, I had no idea I’d still be writing it a year down the line. I’m impressed I’ve stuck with it for so long! Most people who know me in real life will know I have a tendency to go through ‘fads’ and ‘phases’ so for a hobby to have stuck it out this long… well, that’s rare.

I love that blogging has given me the chance to work on something other than just ‘being a Mom’. It challenges me to be creative, technical and business minded, helping to keep this brain of mine sharp(ish). I’ve learned so much and can’t wait to learn more. I’ve begun to teach myself a little bit about photography, and brushed up on my coding skills. I know more about social media than I ever thought possible! And thanks to the wonderful help and advice from other bloggers, I’m starting to become more efficient and manage work better. So what better way to celebrate the end of the year than by looking back at the 2016 best bits…

You may have spotted across social media that Little Pickle’s Mom celebrated it’s first blogging birthday last week! Hooray! I’m not sure what I expected when I first set this little website up but I never imagined in my wildest dreams that it would be so cathartic, fulfilling and give me such incredible opportunities to work with a host of wonderful brands. As we’re nearing the end of 2016, it felt about right to have a big think about the site as a whole, reflect, analyse and make myself some goals for next year. It just so happens that blogging guru Aby from You Baby Me Mummy is running a week long course helping bloggers to do JUST that this week, so I’ve been eagerly reading her daily emails, watching her Live videos on Facebook and hatching lots of plans for next year. And as is pretty evident if you’ve visited the blog this morning… this has prompted a bit of a blog redesign! Yes, I’m trying on a new look for size, and I think I quite like it.

Later this month, I’m going to my first blogging conference: Blog On MSI. I’m really looking forward to it, if I put aside any anxiety I have about leaving Pickle ALL day. As it’s my first blogging event, I thought I’d take part in Zoe’s Blog on MSI Ice Breaker Linky.  Here’s a little bit about me…

1. Share a recent photo of you (or a doodle!)

2. Describe yourself in five words or less

Ah man, I hate these things…
